This is the first and only DVD presentation of the acclaimed PBS program of the events that have come to be known, collectively, as “Katyn.” It is available in DVD format only at the Polonia Today Online Store.
This film is the story of the cold and calculated slaughter of more than 15,000 Polish Army Officers and civilian professionals at the hands of the Soviet NKVD, predecessor of the dreaded KGB ... the attempts to place the blame on the Nazis ... the overwhelming evidence pointing to Moscow and Stalin ... the cover-up ... and the silence. These are the contours of a crime incomprehensible among so-called civilized nations and the complex conspiracy of three governments to conceal it.
The POWs were held in three camps inside the Soviet Union: Kozielsk, Ostashkow and Starobielsk. The first mass grave found was in the Katyn Forest in Russia, the place from which this story takes its name.
This program presents the crime and its repercussions by bringing together both individual and collective aspects ... from the discovery of human bones in the Katyn Forest to how the victims met their fates and the conditions under which they lived while being held prisoner, to the efforts to shield the Russians.
Poland's friends and allies stood silent as her best and brightest were slaughtered. “Katyn ... Slaughter and Silence” is a story no novelist could conceive, but everything actually happened!
The film was produced in association with ETC., the Ethnic Television Channel, Chicago, whose president is editor and TV personality T. Ron Jasinski-Herbert.
